SUMMARY:16th European Public Health Conference 2023: Our Food\, Our Health\, Our Earth: A Sustainable Future for Humanity
DESCRIPTION:Our Food\, Our Health\, Our Earth : A Sustainable Future for Humanity\nOver the next decade we will all make choices which will determine the future of our advanced technological society. The COVID-19 and monkeypox pandemics\, through which the world is now living\, are as graphic an example as could be desired of the instability of our model of life\, and the need for action on One Health. In Europe\, we have paid a high price for our belief that we were safe from infection\, that we could dismantle our public health systems\, and get away with it. Other countries to whom COVID-19 spread from Europe have suffered more\, and paid even higher prices. \nWe have now run out of road on climate emergency. 2021 was the warmest year on record\, and 2022 and 2023 are likely to beat that record. The global climate is changing rapidly. Building a future\, any kind of future\, for us and for our children\, demands a new attention to sustainability. It’s tempting to despair\, to give up. Let’s not. \nThis conference hopes to open up part of this discussion\, with a focus on health\, and health care. We will look specifically at gender and health\, at health care delivery generally\, the use of digital tools\, and the necessary staffing and skills to provide good care. We will\, in line with the overall  conference theme\, look in depth at the climate emergency\, and very specifically at the human food supply. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine poses serious risks to global food security that will require a range of responses from governments and international organizations. The unfolding crisis in Ukraine will push up already-high food price inflation\, and have serious consequences for low-income net-food importing countries\, many of which have seen an increase in malnourishment rates over the past few years in the face of pandemic disruptions. The Ukraine conflict not only exposes the evil of the current Russian government\, but also our failure to create a resilient sustainable global food supply. We can do better\, and we have to do better. \nWe look forward to seeing you all in person\, in Dublin. Dublin is well known as a literary city\, but our long history of public health in Ireland is less well known. These two elements of our history intersect strikingly in one man\, William Wilde\, society doctor\, hospital founder\, apprentice to Abraham Colles\, husband to Jane Elgee\, herself better known as ‘Speranza’\, the poet of revolution\, father to Oscar Wilde\, who needs no introduction\, and Willy\, an alcoholic and a journalist. Sir  William\, as he became\, wrote extensively on eye surgery\, Irish antiquities\, Irish folklore\, and on the health of the Irish population. DESCRIPTION:Epidemiology for planning the future:\nXLI Annual Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE) and the XVIII Congress of the Portuguese Association of Epidemiology (APE) \nPreliminary Congress Programme incl. registration information \nJADECARE’s accepted contribution is titled: Evaluation of the Impact of Joint Actions on Decision-Making in Public Health: A Scoping Review (Speaker: José María Castellano García\, Agència de Qualitat i Avaluació Sanitàries de Catalunya – AQuAS) \nBackground/Objectives: Joint Actions (JA) are a financing instrument under the EU Health Programme that involves the participation of various member states to implement priority actions. Evaluating the impact of any initiative funded by public funds is important for accountability\, but it can be challenging. The objectives of this study were to determine the approaches and impact evaluation methodologies used in JAs in public health and to identify the facilitators and obstacles to impact on public policies. \nMethods: A rapid scoping review of the last 20 years was conducted\, identifying a total of 19 articles on JAs in the Pubmed/Medline (n=13) and Google Scholar (n=6) databases. Additionally\, the websites of finished public health JAs (n=40) from 2003 to 2022 were reviewed through the European Commission website. \nResults: The results show that\, in general\, the articles focus more on the project results rather than its impact. The projects that show impact mostly use qualitative evaluation approaches\, such as Delphi techniques\, interviews with expert groups\, consensus exercises\, and opinions\, rather than standardized quantitative data analysis and indicators. The facilitators for their impact on public policy include articles that provide clear and evidence-based results and evaluation approaches that consider the viewpoints of different stakeholders. The obstacles include less attention to the impact rather than project content\, a huge variety of evaluation frameworks\, and many qualitative-based approaches. \nConclusions/Recommendations: Efforts should be made to evaluate the impact of projects through data analysis and evaluation that takes into account all project stakeholders. This would allow for clearer and more precise results and ensure greater impact on public health policies.

SUMMARY:Health Services Research UK Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Health Services Research UK’s 16th annual conference will be held from 4 to 6 July 2023 in person at the University of Birmingham.  For those who are unable to join in person\, it will be offering an online option allowing access to the conference platform and on-demand content. \nThe conference committee is developing an exciting programme with high quality speakers from across the UK\, covering key issues for the HSR community. There will be some great plenary sessions\, practical and interactive workshops\, HSR learning and development sessions and the opportunity as always to showcase and discuss your research. \nThe aging population\, with the growing burden of chronic conditions and multimorbidity\, is constantly increasing the demand for more comprehensive\, efficient and smarter personalized care delivery based on innovative solutions. For this reason\, the transformation of health systems in Europe with the design\, development and implementation of innovative digital solutions\, ensuring systems’ sustainability is highly needed. \nIn this framework\, JADECARE\, the EU funded “Joint Action on digitally enabled integrated person-centred care”\, aims to contribute to innovative\, efficient and sustainable health systems providing expertise to assist the European Countries in undertaking health system reforms. It intends to support the transformation of health systems by successfully addressing the transfer and adoption of four “original Good Practices” (oGPs) to 21 other settings of “Next Adopters” (NAs). \nJADECARE involves partners from 16 European countries holding different levels of penetration\, adoption and maturity of integrated care\, providing a complete scenario of different idiosyncrasies. The project started on October 1st\, 2020 and ends on September 30th\, 2023. \nThe challenge of this JA is to transfer innovations that have proven to be successful to heterogeneous and complex healthcare environments by adapting the practices to be transferred to the local needs\, situation\, capabilities\, resources\, plans\, strategies and current implementations of the NAs. \nFor this reason\, great focus has been dedicated to the preparation of the local environments. During the pre-implementation phase the 21 NAs identified more than 150 needs and defined 64 interventions and action plans that will target more than 4 million inhabitants. \n  \nHealth Services Research UK (HSR UK) is dedicated to the promotion of health services research in policy and practice. The annual conference is open to everyone interested in health and care services and systems research\, both based in the UK and internationally\, and offers you the opportunity to: \n\nEngage with cutting-edge research. SUMMARY:European Implementation Event EIE2023
DESCRIPTION:At the #EIE2023\, Implementation – the translation\, uptake and integration of research findings within the daily routines of human services – takes centre stage. Attendees will learn about latest\, cutting-edge implementation science and practice; participate in inspiring and surprising discussions with international colleagues; expand your professional network; and be inspired by the diversity of this exciting discipline. \n\nEU funded Joint Action JADECARE\, aiming to assist Member States in undertaking health system reforms by supporting the transfer of four “original Good Practices” (primary care centers\, hospital and community setting) to 21 “Next Adopters (NAs)” of 14 different EU countries will be hosting a workshop at EIE2023 demonstrating its implementation strategy.\nThe three step implementation strategy has been developed to enable the transfer process that includes a series of techniques\, concrete procedures\, guidance and recommendations.\nThe three main phases are: Pre-implementation (planning and preparation)\, Implementation (roll-out and operation\, based on PDSA cycles) and Post-implementation (impact assessment and learning).  The strategy provides a blueprint for adoption\, implementation\, monitoring\, reporting and sustainability of successful interventions into new contexts.  Furthermore\, the successful use case of JADECARE sets the base to implement digitally enabled integrated care at large scale\, which translates into introducing innovations in health systems that result in better health care.\nFollowing the presentation of its strategy\, JADECARE representatives will discuss two key questions with the audience:\n1) How relevant is it to focus on the prior preparation of the local environment and to consider the key contextual determinants of the implementers to modulate the success of the implementation process?\n2) How can a community of learning stakeholders be promoted that explores ways to develop\, collect and exchange knowledge and performs concrete action for boosting and leveraging the sustainability of the implemented practices? \nEIC overarching goals\, also pursued at EIC2023  are to: \n\n\n\nBe the “go to” network for knowledge and resources on European implementation science and practice.\nConnect individuals\, groups\, networks\, and organisations\, reducing the implementation science – practice gap.\nActively promote equity in implementation science and practice.\nCollaborate with organisations\, networks\, and groups outside the EIC to push forward implementation science and practice.\n\nThe European Implementation Collaborative (EIC) aims to build a connected European community of practitioners\, researchers\, and policy makers with contemporary implementation skills and expertise\, improving the quality of life for all people.

DESCRIPTION:The European Health Management Association (EHMA) and ALTEMS – Advanced School of Health Economics and Management\, Catholic University of Sacred Heart\, will co-host the 28th edition of the EHMA Annual Conference on 5-7 June 2023 in Rome\, Italy under the headline ‘Health management: sustainable solutions for complex systems’. During the three-day programme of this event\, opportunities\, best practices and innovations for continuously evolving health systems will be addressed. Participants will be supported to propose innovative solutions for sustainable and resilient health systems and facilitate exchange and discussion on complex issues. \nJADECARE has been accepted for hosting a workshop at EHMA 2023 conference for presenting the results and impact of JADECARE that has targeted more than 4 million people at different levels: regionally\, European-wide and for future health policies; and explores the key elements to support the sustainability of good practice transfer beyond the projects.\nTwo implementing regions will showcase their particular results of the transfer and implementation of good practices. In addition\, the JADECARE Sustainability strategy will be exposed to the audience and its three core elements: policy environment\, ownership of sustainability and culture of collaboration and consensus seeking. DESCRIPTION:The 23rd International Conference on Integrated Care (ICIC23) in partnership with the Flanders Agency for Health and Care and Visit Flanders will take place at Flanders Meeting & Convention Center Antwerp\, Flanders from 22-24 May 2023. With the overarching theme ‘Care in action: how to work together\, a participatory approach’\, the conference will bring together leaders\, researchers\, clinicians\, managers\, citizens\, patients and caregivers from around the world who are engaged in the design and delivery of integrated health and social care. \nJADECARE will be present at the event in the format of a dedicated JADECARE workshop\, as participant and contributor in an EC hosted workshop for EU funded projects and an oral presentation by one of the Next Adopters (Andalusia):\n \nJADECARE has been accepted for hosting a workshop under the objective to share the results of the implementation process of JADECARE and explore the key elements to ensure the sustainability of local good practices beyond the Joint Action. In this regard\, the results of the implementation process of JADECARE will be presented and the key elements to support the sustainability of good practice transfer beyond the Joint Action will be explored. Abstract: A Complex Chronic Disease is a condition involving multiple morbidities that requires the attention of multiple health care providers and\, therefore\, a holistic approach. The Andalusian Public Health System is responsible for the provision of healthcare and public health services to the Andalusian population (8.5 million inhabitants)\, where around 200000 complex chronic patients (CCPs)\, with chronic heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been identified and prioritized. Healthcare at home for CCPs is considered a key element that facilitates patient follow-up\, can avoid emergency episodes\, promoting patient empowerment. The Andalusian participation in the EU Joint Action JADECARE “joint action on implementation of digitally enabled integrated person-centered care” (GA 951442) focuses on improving healthcare at home for CCPs with CHF and COPD. The development\, implementation and testing of a Centralised System for Proactive Follow-up (SCSP) of chronic patients is being monitored\, as well as the tele-referral service which is being expanded. The SCSP is supported by National funds as well (Servicio para la implantación de una solución corporativa para el seguimiento proactivode pacientes crónicos en el sistema sanitario público de Andalucía (Expdte. 039/21-SP.). The aim of the JADECARE Andalusian pilot is to improve health status and quality of life of CCPs by enhancing home healthcare proactive follow-up and its evaluation. \nOverall Conference Themes:  \n\nChange management implementation: macro\, meso and micro level\nPerson-centred care: focus on integration of goals and needs\nCollaboration : factor for successful implementation of integrated care\nEngaging everybody: caring neighbourhoods and compassionate communities\nPopulation health approach: leverage for integrated care\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe scientific committee for this conference has been established from international experts who are leading in the field of Integrated Care. DESCRIPTION:MIE 2023 “Caring is Sharing – Exploiting Value in Data for Health and Innovation”is co-organised by European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and Swedish Federation for Medical Informatics (SFMI).\n \nThe conference theme 2023 “Caring is Sharing” is closely connected to the rapid development of health data sharing taking place both in Europe and globally. The focus is on the opportunities of health informatics and the research within the EFMI community to enable trustworthy sharing of health data to improve human health. This includes healthcare\, community care\, self-care and public health\, as well as innovation and development of future proof digital health solutions. \nMIE2023 returns after just five years to Gothenburg after MIE2018. One reason to be back so quickly is to harmonise with the presidency of the EU that Sweden has during the first half of 2023. MIE 2023 will also be a co-arrangement with the yearly Swedish conference Vitalis where the participants can select either MIE 2023 or Vitalis sessions (although some Vitalis sessions will be in Swedish). The growing health inequalities around the globe leads to a simple conclusion: Europe must take on a more active role in global health. Europe must use its knowledge and influence to balance out market forces\, expand regulatory oversight and create socially responsible systems for health\, especially when it comes to the distribution of vaccines and essential medicines. \nDigitalization is a key area where recent developments require us to exchange ideas and come up with new approaches. The past decades have seen significant developments in data collection and processing capacity as well as eHealth applications. We need to ensure that the vast amounts of data generated are well protected on the one hand\, but also being available and usable for public health interventions. DESCRIPTION:Upcoming (free) JADECARE Webinar “Taking care of the complex patient: the contribution of Joint Action on implementation of digitally enabled integrated person-centred care”: The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and the frequent presence of multimorbid conditions represent a public health priority and a shared challenge present in both the Italian and European contexts: providing efficient\, personalized and integrated care that promotes better quality of services is key to address this challenge. \nTo this end\, the Regional Health Agency\, on behalf of the Region of Tuscany\, participates in the European Joint Action “JADECARE” (Joint Action on implementation of Digitally Enabled integrated person-centered CARE) whose purpose is to contribute to the development of more innovative\, effective and sustainable health care systems by supporting the sharing of some “Good Practices” already in place in other European countries. Therefore\, in accordance with the objectives of the project\, professionals from ARS Tuscany and “Piana di Lucca” District Zone have opted to transfer and implement some components of the Good Practice of the Basque Country in “Piana di Lucca” site. Please check the list of EFPC 2022 Ghent Conference – Themes. \nDeadline for submission: 1 May 2022 \nSubmissions should follow one of the following formats: \n\nResearch abstracts: These presentations will provide the results\, completed or in advanced in-progress form\, of original research projects. Papers related to PhD projects\, either completed or in progress\, are especially encouraged. The selected abstracts will be presented via a max 12 min powerpoint presentation and discussed within workshops that are moderated by key-experts in the specific theme.\n\nPolicy debate posters: These posters describe significant developments in policy (whether governmental\, organisational or any other) that affects primary care associated with the themes of the conference. In particularly national\, regional or local policymakers are invited to provide new policy developments. Posters need clear statements for debate. All selected posters will be presented/defended in specific parallel sessions with a 15 minutes time-slot for each poster. The pandemic revealed both the system weaknesses and the opportunities for innovation. The EUPHA-HWR second midterm Conference provided a forum for exchanging knowledge and expertise on how to create a better prepared and protected health workforce and more resilient healthcare systems.\nThe Conference also contributed to the WHO International Year of Health and Care Workers (YHCW) in 2021 in recognition of their dedication to providing care during and despite the COVID-19 pandemic that has challenged health systems worldwide.
